Our tips for a successful participation
Good preparation is the be-all and end-all for any job fair visit.
Think about the goals of your visit in advance: Are you actively looking for a job or do you just want to gather information? Which jobs and areas of responsibility do you want to find? What values are important to you in your professional life?
On this basis, you can make a list of employers to whom you would like to introduce yourself to.
Make a list of your favorite companies, research information and collect questions that you would like to ask the company representatives on the day of the fair. You can find an overview of the participating companies and initial information here.
You want to know how to present yourself confidently and authentically at the job fair? Do you want to score points with convincing application documents?
Then get loads of tips and inspiration at our free workshops and lectures.
You can find more information here.
It is best to bring several printouts of your current resume to the fair. If the interview goes well, you can show or hand them over.
Are you still unsure? Then take advantage of the opportunity to have your documents checked in the individual resume check before the fair.
First impressions count: Choose an outfit that matches your desired company. Remember that clothing influences your appearance and self-presentation. It is important that you feel comfortable and not too dressed up.
Not sure about your outfit? "Smart casual" - i.e. shirt or blouse and dark trousers always go.
Come to the fair early. According to past fairs, it is less busy then. At lunchtime, many students come and want to talk to the company representatives.
At the fair, the focus is on personal contact. Don't be shy: a career fair is not a job interview, it is first and foremost about getting to know each other, which can become the basis for follow-up interviews.
The best thing to do is to approach the company representatives at the stand directly and talk to them actively. You can briefly introduce yourself and your career, ask your questions and thus gain valuable insider knowledge.
Tip: Are you nervous? Then start with one or two booths that are of less interest to you in order to "warm up" and practice the conversation.
Your interview went well? Then make sure that you benefit from it in the long term.
Record the names and positions of the people you spoke to or get a business card. After the show, decide which contacts you want to follow up with. Follow up promptly by email, thanking them for the conversation or reiterating your interest in a position. To stay in the loop, you can also send the person a request on a social network such as Linkedin.
Want to apply for a job? Then refer to the interview at the fair in your cover letter and be sure to mention who you spoke to on the spot.
